Abstract:

Albert R. Wynn represented Maryland's Fourth Congressional District in the United States House of Representatives from 1993 to 2008. Prior to that service Wynn served as director of the Prince George's County Consumer Protection Commission and in the Maryland General Assembly. After his defeat in the 2008 Democratic primary by Donna Edwards, Wynn resigned in order to take a position with the lobbying firm Dickstein Shapiro. Edwards won a special election to serve the remainder of his term During his time in Congress Wynn was active in the Congressional Black Caucus, serving on the group's Political Action Committee and its Minority Business Task Force. Wynn was a member of the House Energy and Commerce Committee, serving on the Subcommittee on Energy and Air Quality as well as chairing the Subcommittee on Environment and Hazardous Materials. This collection pertains entirely to Wynn's service in the House of Representatives. A large portion of the collection consists of news clippings, correspondence, and committee files, as well as extensive collections of video and audio tape and photographs documenting Wynn's activities. Issues mentioned in the files include the War in Iraq, the environment, minority-owned and small business, energy policy, television ratings, affirmative action, and employment discrimination. Correspondents include many national politicians active during the period 1993 to 2008, especially other members of Maryland's Congressional Delegation, Presidents Bill Clinton and George W. Bush, Vice President Al Gore, and other members of the Congressional Black Caucus. The collection is unprocessed but a preliminary inventory is available.
