The Kodály Center of America was established in April 1977 by Denise Bacon in Wellesley, Massachusetts. The center was later moved to Newton, Massachusetts and then Providence, Rhode Island. Its shared interests with the Kodály Musical Training Institute (KMTI) include research into American folk music, the development of curriculum and model schools, and the training of master teachers. The Kodály Center of America Collections contains materials dating between 1965 and 2004 with the bulk of materials falling between 1973 and 1986. The collection consists primarily of individual faculty and student files. Also included are a small collection of board minutes dating from 1977-2002, issues of the International Kodály Society Bulletin from 1977-2003, copies of speeches and presentations delivered at the KMTI and KCA from 1965-2003, and a collection of musical education books, many informed by the Kodály Method.
