Abstract
Jeane Young's career in public broadcasting primarily focused on adult learning, as she directed the Television for Learning Project under the auspices of the Educative Awareness Project for the Public Broadcasting Service. This collection documents her involvement with this project as well as topics including underwriting in public television, the Children's Television Workshop, and the future of public television in the 1980s.

Historical Note
Jeane R. Young started her career in public broadcasting in 1973 in the Public Broadcasting Service's Division of Public Records. In June 1978, she became director of the Television for Learning Project, a promotional project under the auspices of the Educative Awareness Project. In December 1978, she left PBS to join WKNO-TV in Memphis, Tennessee, as their community relations director. She continued work for the Television for Learning Project as a consultant. In 1979, she began work as the director of public affairs for the Economic Development Administration for the United States Department of Commerce. Young also served as director of public affairs for the Wolf Trap Foundation, where she was in charge of public relations and marketing activities.
Scope and Contents of the Collection
The Jeane R. Young Papers cover the years 1974 to 1979, with the bulk of the collection from 1975 to 1978. The collection, an overview of public television during the 1970s, documents Young's involvement with the Television for Learning Project, and includes further information on the Educative Awareness Project, underwriting in public television, the Children's Television Workshop, finances and budgeting, and the future of public television in the 1980s. Types of documents include photographs, memoranda, corresopndence, newsletters, news clippings, notes and reports. Hartford N. Gunn, Jr. figures prominently in the documents.

Detailed Description of the Collection
Series 1: Chronological Files, 1974-1979 and undated (0.50 linear foot)
This series focuses on the attempts of the Corporation for Public Broadcasting (CPB) and the Public Broadcasting Service (PBS) to increase public awareness to the importance of educational television. Topics include the 1975 Television for Learning Project, which was a promotional part of Phase II of the Educative Awareness Project. The collection also includes information pertinent to Phase I of this three-year collaboration between the Corporation for Public Broadcasting and the Public Broadcasting Service. Other topics included in the collection are the Children's Television Workshop (CTW), the Public Broadcasting Service show The People, program underwriting in public broadcasting, the Public Broadcasting Service fundraiser FESTIVAL '75, the National Program Production and Distribution Agreement, and the future of public broadcasting in the 1980s, specifically freedom from government restrictions.
