Jackson R. Bryer Interviews Collection
Abstract
Dr. Jackson R. Bryer is a Professor Emeritus of the University of Marylands Department of English, who has also worked with the Department of Theatre as an affiliate faculty member and literary advisor. The Jackson R. Bryer Interviews Collection covers the period from 1990 to 2004; the bulk of the materials date from 1991 to 1993, and 2002 to 2004. The collection consists of recorded interviews of notable figures from the theatre profession.

Historical Note
Dr. Jackson R. Bryer is a Professor Emeritus of the University of Marylands Department of English. A recipient of the universitys Distinguished Scholar-Teacher Award in 2004, Bryer has also worked with the Department of Theatre as an affiliate faculty member and literary advisor. He is the author, editor, co-author, or co-editor of thirty-one books, has contributed to thirty-seven books, and published thirty journal articles. Bryers professional service includes leadership positions with many literary and theatre organizations, including serving on the Board of Directors for the Washington Area Performing Arts Video Archive, on the Board of Directors for the PEN/Faulkner Foundation, and as president of the Eugene ONeill Society. A specialist in American and modern literature, Bryer earned his Ph.D. from University of Wisconsin in 1965.
Scope and Contents of the Collection
The Jackson R. Bryer Interviews Collection covers the period from 1990 to 2004; the bulk of the materials date from 1991 to 1993, and 2002 to 2004. The collection consists of recorded interviews of notable figures from the theatre profession. Except for three instances, Dr. Bryer conducted or contributed to all of the interviews, which include Pat Carroll, Stacy Keach, Jean-Claude van Italie, Marshall Mason, Ntozake Shange, Neil Simon, Stephen Sondheim, Lanford Wilson, and others.

Series 1: Audiocassette Interviews, 1990-2004 (.50 linear feet)
This series contains audio-recorded interviews with notable figures involved from the theatre profession. Except where noted, Dr. Bryer conducted or contributed to all of the interviews. Materials are arranged chronologically. Descriptions of content are transcribed verbatim from the items.
