This subseries contains the following reports: Educational Foundation Business Meeting, May 1964; Report of the AWR Nominations Committee, 1966; Progress Report and Budget, 1968; a 1968-1969 year-enreport from AWRT President Mary Dorr; Report of the President for Board of Directors Meeting, 1969; a report from the Educational Foundation from 1969; a 1971-72 one-page, year-end report from AWRT nation President Marianne Campbell; "Planning Process for AWRT, Inc.," March 1978; a 1981 report from Wilma Kriner to Martha Stanville; and Annual Report 1983-1984 (3 copies), the last is in brochure form. Subseries 1.3: Board of Directors/Miscellaneous Bios, 1966; undated (1 folder)

Contains a 1966 list of the Board of Directors of AWRT as well as names and addresses for all chapter chairs.

Subseries 1.4: Board of Trustees Education Foundation Minutes of Meetings, 1960-1977 (1.50 linear feet)

Although specific items may vary from file to file in this series most contain proposed minutes for upcoming meetings (for both the Board of Trustees and the Education Foundation). Often as well, files contain correspondence and/or confirmation regarding the venue for that year's convention. Arranged by date.

Subseries 1.5: Membership, 1958-1993 (3 folders)

This series concerns aspects of AWRT membership includes membership kits (1964-1968); membership directories (1958-1993); a copy of one-pager "Suggestions on What to Include When Talking to Writing to a Prospective Member" and two copies of a booklet from 1974 titled "A Profile of the Membership."

Subseries 1.6: Committees, 1963-1991 (0.50 linear feet)

As with any large organization, AWRT has within it various subgroups to handle specific tasks and achieve specified goals. This series concerns some of AWRT's one-time and currently existing committee including the Public Relations and Publicity Committees (1968-1970) contains correspondence and press releases); the Industry InformatioCommittee (1963-1966) (includes usage reports submitted to the Board of Directors, a sheet of frequently asked questions, and correspondence including copies of letters sent out as responses to questions posed to the Committee); and the Historical Committee (c. 1991). Subseries 1.7: Correspondence, 1958-1986 (1 folder)

Subseries 2.1: Workshops, circa 1981 (2 folders)

Contains list of workshops to be held at the 1981 AWRT convention as well as notes for workshop facilitators. Arranged by workshop name and by date.

Subseries 2.2: Broadcast Industry Forums, 1966-1976, undated (1 folder)

Materials (15 items total) related to a group of forums, begun in 1965, conducted by the Education Committee of AWRT. Arranged by forum name and date.

Subseries 2.3: AWRT International, 1963-1967 (11 folders)

During the 1960s, AWRT sponsored an exchange program where female broadcasters from other countries came to the United States to learn more about American broadcasting. This subseries includes the following years 1964, 1965, 1966 and 1967. Arranged by date.

Subseries 2.4: AWRT Political Activities, 1974-1979, undated (1 folder)

Over the years, AWRT has thrown its support behind various causes and proposed legislation. This series contains letters and other materials related to various issues of AWRT concern, including affirmative action, television's advertising to children, and FCC intervention into programming content. Arranged by date.

Subseries 2.5: Other, 1980; undated (1 folder)

This subseries contains the 1980 brochure "First Management Institute" and an undated one-page flier for the Educational Foundation's presentation of a seminar titled "The Inestimable Right."

Subseries 3.1: Public Relations, 1964-1970 (1.25 linear feet)

This subseries contains items pertaining to the Committee on Public Relations to Libraries (1964-1970), a film festival of library-produced media spots--TV commercials, programs, radio spots, radio shows, etc.--that "present the best evidence of library and media collaboration." Items arranged by date.

Subseries 3.2: Oral History Project, 1976-1984 (0.75 linear feet)

In the mid-1970s, AWRT, in association with the NAB's Broadcast Pioneers Library (now the Library of American Broadcasting), began an oral histories initiative to record and archive one-on-one interviews with female radio and television pioneers. The initiative was done at both local and national levels, and involved interviewing women who had made a difference in their industry. (NOTE: The Library of American Broadcasting houses the original recordings of many of the AWRT's oral histories as well as transcripts of same. These can be searched at the Library's website at www.lib.umd.edu/LAB.) This subseries is arranged by type of item (letter, article, etc.) and then by date.

Subseries 4.1: Regional Conferences, 1955-1985 (2 folders)

Materials related to various AWRT regional business and events. Includes: program from the 1955 NY chapter conference; a flier from a 1961 conference of the NY Chapter with speaker Lady Bird Johnson; invitation from the NY chapter to a Christmas party at Gracie Mansion in 1961; an October, 1964 program for the New York State Conference; "Tower Talk" newsletter from the Atlanta Chapter (probably 1965); an official notice from the NY City chapter of AWRT listing their nominations for their offices from 1967; a 1968 press release on the inaugural meeting of the Washington, DC chapter; attendee packets from the Northeast Area conference from 1968 and 1969; revised bylaws of NY Chapter from April of 1969; a May 1969 report on the NY chapter authored by Catharine Heinz; program from the 1970 regional conference of the East Central chapter held in Detroit; a program from the East Central Area (1977) held in Kentucky; a program from 1985 also for the Northeast Area conference; and a flier for the Washington, DC chapter from 1994, among other items. Subseries 4.2: Annual National Conventions, 1953-1999 (1.50 linear feet)

Beginning in 1953, AWRT has met annually in various cities to conduct business, present awards, recognize achievements and share ideas and experiences. This subseries documents those yearly conventions with bound programs, correspondence, meeting notes, and agendas. This subseries is arranged chronologically by date of convention.

Subseries 4.3: International Convention, 1969-1970 (2 folders)

Correspondence, programs, picture postcards, invitations, brochures, and other items, including a 67-page "Bulletin" from AWRT, concerning AWRT's first international convention held in London in 1970. There are 22 total items in this subseries. Arranged by date.

Subseries 4.4: Asian-American Women Broadcasters Conferences, 1965-1967 (2 folders)

Asian-American Women Broadcasters, a subgroup of AWRT, held their own informational conference twice, first in 1966, the second in 1967. Arranged by date.

Subseries 9.1: Catharine Heinz--Bio Material and Photos, 1962-1970; undated (6 folders)

Various clippings and photocopies (34 total items) of press mentions of Ms. Heinz including ones in "Broadcasting Magazine" and "Library Journal" as well as nine black and white photos of Ms. Heinz from over the years. Also includes materials related to Columbia University Alumni Day, several typed book reviewers written by Ms. Heinz, and materials related to the 1962 "Gale Source Book Series" for which Ms. Heinz was approached to be an editor. Subseries 9.2: General Business, 1961-1966; undated (1 folder)

File containing a flow chart of TIO's operations and other procedural items including a 1966-1967 summary of all requests fielded by TIO's library. Eleven total items, arranged by date.

Subseries 9.3: Correspondence, 1959-1970 (4 folders)

Various communiqués (42 total items), largely "thank you" notes, sent to Heinz including letters from NBC, Agnes Law, New York City Public Library, Columbia University, and the US Treasury Department. Correspondence is sequenced by date.

Subseries 9.5: Publications, 1960-1971; undated (3 folders)

Copies of a booklet "Television Careers: A Bibliography" (TIO, 1962) and two copies of TIO's newsletter, "InformaTIOn," from October of 1966 and April of 1971; one copy of lengthy report labeled "A Sampling of Responses to T.I.O. Activity & Publications; For Carl Burkland, March, 1971, as well as a handful of TIO press releases. Eighteen total items, arranged by date.

Subseries 9.6: Seminars, Workshops, and Events, 1966-1999; undated (5 folders)

Brief collection of notes, correspondence and background material on the topic of the formulation of a national association of charter schools; various reports and clippings from all over the country on art centers, art councils, and art information centers; a program for the 1962 annual meeting of the Association of Hospital and Institutional Libraries (AHIL) and a copy of a Fall 1967 newsletter from the AHIL; materials related to a Healthcare Customer Service Workshop in 1998; and to a series of public programs, co-produced by TIO, AWRT and Gene Barnes of McFadden, Strauss, Eddy & Irwin. Finally, AWRT specifically sponsored a seminar in 1964 titled "Profile of Broadcasting." There are 41 total items in this subseries. All items are organized by type of event and then by date.

Subseries 9.7: Special Interests, 1966-1967 (1 folders)

Notes and correspondence pertaining to a study undertaken by A.W. Bluem on the type of public requests that are fielded by TIO as well as by the networks and by various sight-and-sound archive collections. There are 37 items in this subseries. Arranged by date.

Subseries 9.8: Other, 1956-1967; undated (6 foldes)

Contains various Xeroxed reports/clips about an old Nyscoa House Organ, as well as clipped cartoons and other miscellaneous fodder. Also includes printed matter (programs, journals, newsletters, etc.) from various outside groups, including 9 newsletters from the School of Library Science at Columbia; 45 TIO information request cards; and handwritten scraps containing notes, figures, phone numbers, etc. There are 61 total items in this subseries.
