Abstract
This collection consists of holograph and printed invitations to various cultural, social, and official functions held at the Maryland Agricultural College and at the University of Maryland. Events represented include commencements, teas, dances, dedications of buildings and other facilities, receptions, and testimonial dinners.

Historical Note
This record group consists of invitations pertaining mainly to events held at or sponsored by the University of Maryland.
Scope and Contents of the Collection
The invitations cover the years 1895-1979, 1995, and 1998. Events represented include commencement exercises, dances, class banquets, parties, rural women's short course activities, teas, building dedications, and lectures held by Maryland Agricultural College and the University of Maryland.
Custodial History and Acquisition Information
It is unclear when these materials were originally received by the University of Maryland Libraries. Invitations received since 1972 have been added to the record group as appropriate.
Processing Information

The invitations were placed into one series. Paper clips and staples were removed and replaced by plastic clips. The materials have been placed in acid-free folders and an acid-free box.

Detailed Description of the Collection
Series 1: Invitations, 1895-1979, 1995, 1998 (0.25 linear feet)
This series contains invitations to various events held by the University of Maryland. The majority of invitations relate to commencement activities. There are also a number of invitations to dances held by classes, sororities, and fraternities. Other events represented include the rural women's short course, building dedication ceremonies, lectures, teas, and other social events. The series is arranged chronologically.
