Summary:As part of its 1878 European tour, the Patrick Gilmore Band played at the World's Fair in Paris. He received this medal to commemorate the event. Medal bears motto "Exposition Universelle Internationale, MDCCCLXXVIII" on the front and "Republique Francaise" on back. Printed on the silk lining is "medal commemorative offerte pour services rendus, Monsieur Gilmore, directeur de la musique, d'harmonie Americaine, concerts du Trocadero." Paris, 1878.
