Summary: | First monument to George Washington, Boonsboro, Maryland, circa 1936-1944. Caption reads: "The first Monument erected to the memory of George Washington is located on top of South Mountain. It was built July 4th, 1827. The original monument was gradually reduced to a state of near ruins over a period of years. In 1936 it was rebuilt and is now a Maryland State Park. It is reached by a splendid road leading from U.
