Summary:An internal memorandum to recording secretaries working for the United Brotherhood of Carpenters and Joiners of America, January 1943. The memo body reads: "Regarding Women as Members / In reply to many inquiries being received at the General Office regarding acceptance of women as members of our Local Unions, it has been decided that women engaged in any industry or performing work coming under the jurisdiction of the United Brotherhood of Carpenters and Joiners of America and receiving the same pay as men are eligible to membership. They will be required to pay the same Initiation Fee, the same monthly dues and otherwise be governed by all of the provision of the General Constitution and Laws of the United Brotherhood. They will also be entitled to all the rights, benefits and privileges of the Organization the same as any other member."
