Summary: | The front of the house where Jennie Wade was killed including two insets, one of the monument to Jennie Wade, and the other a bust picture of Jennie, Gettysburg, Pennsylvania, circa 1907-1915. Caption reads: "Miss Jennie Wade was the only citizen of Gettysburg killed during the three days' battle. She was 20 years old, and was attending to her usual household duties when struck by a stray bullet which had passed through two doors. Her house, on Baltimore Street, is now used as a war museum and contains a complete collection of battle relics." Postmark date: November 1, 1909; Postcard number: 2397; Message included. Message reads: "Hope you receive the card I sent from Gettysburg as we were pressed for time + I was fortunate enough to get the little time I did to scribble off 3 or 4. If you care for history you should make this trip. The battleground as is covered with costly monuments and statues, + the story of the battle as told by the guide kind of makes one have that funny feeling running up + down their spine." |
