Summary:Clara (Clarissa Harlowe) Barton, humanitarian and founder of the American Red Cross, was born on December 25, 1821, in North Oxford, Massachusetts. This folder contains correspondence to Harriette L. Reed, whom Barton addresses as "sister"; Mrs. Reed was an active member of the Women's Relief Corps.
