Alternate title: | The breached south wall at Fort Frederick |
Summary: | Artist's depiction of the breached south wall at Fort Frederick, Washington County, Maryland, circa 1971-1990. Caption reads: "During the Civil War the south wall was breached and cannon set up frowning upon the Potomac River skirted as it was by the B. & O. Railroad, the thoroughfare on the Virginia shore (later West Virginia) and the C. & O. Canal. As a somewhat glorified aftermath, it might be added that stones from one of the barracks within the fort had been used to build one of the nearby canal locks." Postcard number: P18381. |
