Summary:Fort Wool, view from Old Point Comfort, Hampton, Virginia, circa 1915-1930. Caption reads: "From the Government Wharf at Old Point can be seen the ramparts of the Rip Raps, or Fort Wool, as it is officially called. The fort is located on an artificially constructed island made by sinking on a bar barges loaded with stone. Among the engineers, who began its construction in 1829, was Robert E.
