Summary: | Old stage coach relay station on Santa Fe Trail, near Santa Fe, New Mexico, circa 1915-1930. Caption reads: "Before the coming of the railroad the journey to Santa Fe was made by stage coach over the historic Santa Fe Trail. The fare for the perilous journey was $150 and the time schedule, from Independence, Missouri, eastern terminus of the trail was 20 to 25 days. A charge of fifty cents a pound was made for all baggage in excess of 40 pounds. Passengers carried their own bedding and slept in the crude relay stations provided at intervals along the route."
