Standing today as part of the Fredericksburg and Spotsylvania National Military Park, this stone wall serves as a grim memorial of the futile Union efforts during the battle for Marye's Heights. The entrenched Confederate forces waiting along the Sunken Road decimated the advancing Union troops and declared a brutal victory. Some 9,600 Union troops died in the ferocious fighting for Fredericksburg." Postcard number: VA143, 07143.
