Summary: | Portrait of Charles Carroll, circa 1951-1967. Caption reads: "Carroll was a leader of the Revolutionary cause in Maryland, member of the Continental Congress, and Signer of the Declaration of Independence. He laid the first stone of the B & O Railroad in 1828, was the most prominent Catholic layman of the country, and the last surviving signer. The portrait was presented to the Maryland Historical Society, 1846, by Mrs. Charles C. McTavish, granddaughter of Carroll." Portrait attributed to Robert Field.
