The University Publications Collection consists of a variety of printed materials produced by and about the numerous administrative units, academic departments, and student groups at the University of Maryland at College Park. The collection also includes limited information about several additional University of Maryland campuses, including University of Maryland University College.

Budget. A substantial amount of budgetary statistics on CSCS/University College can be found in University of Maryland Budget publications, including the Detailed, Summary, and "Governor's" (University of Maryland System) Budgets.

Catalogs. CSCS/University College Catalogs are not included in this section of University Publications. However, from 1948/1949 to 1968/1970, General/Combined University of Maryland Catalogs do make note of the College of Special and Continuation Studies. Otherwise, only the 1973/1974 and 1975/1976 Graduate School Catalogs briefly mention University of Maryland University College, and Undergraduate Catalogs make only sporadic references in the 1970s and 1980s.

College of Special and Continuation Studies. The College of Special and Continuation Studies (CSCS) was the original name of University College. CSCS publications include catalogs and class schedules, financial reports, commencement programs, reprinted speeches and articles, and pamphlets for various programs, courses, and conferences. In addition, there is A History of the University of Maryland College of Special and Continuation Studies (University College): The Development of a World-Wide Education Program, 1947-1956, written by Bill G. Clutter.

Financial Reports. Information on CSCS/University College can be found in University of Maryland Financial Reports starting in 1947/1948 and continuing on into the present decade.

University College. The publications in this category include newsletters and newspapers (The Marylander, Maryland Overseas), annual and financial reports, student and faculty handbooks, anniversary booklets, articles about University College and its programs, Munich Branch yearbooks, catalogs, and commencement programs. There are also various pamphlets relating to courses, the Center of Adult Education, programs for overseas U. S. military and civilian personnel, seminars and conferences, and the Title I Higher Education Act.

University of Maryland University College. This grouping contains reports, catalogs and class schedules, commencement programs, a bound volume of conference proceedings, and various pamphlets regarding the Center of Adult Education, lectures and conferences, courses, and programs. Also included are various newsletters and newspapers, such as Twilight Times, Directions, and The Marylander.

The Archives and Manuscripts Department's Photograph Collection includes several photographs pertaining to CSCS/ University College dating from 1953 to 1964. Depicted are the University College bookmobile, U. S. servicemen in various settings (near/in planes, in class, at registration, with Gymkana), and other students and faculty. There are also images of Harry C. Byrd, Wilson H. Elkins, Ray Ehrensberger, and Stanley Drazek, who were all involved with University College. Among the processed photographs, those relating to University College can be found under the headings "University College," "Buildings--McKeldin Library," and "Faculty" in the University of Maryland files and under individual names (Byrd, Drazek, Ehrensberger, and Elkins) in the portrait file. There are also University College photographs in Accession #72-242 in the unprocessed portion of the Photograph Collection.
