Summary:Greetings from Washington County, Maryland, circa 1960-1990. Caption reads: "Self Guided Tour Map of Washington County, Maryland. No. 1 -- Take (green) I-70 West to Indian Springs turnoff. Follow Fort Frederick State Park signs. Nos. 2-3 --Take (red) U.S. No. 11 South to City Park Circle and turn right to Hager House, Washington County Museum and City Park. No. 4 -- Then continue on U.S. No 11 South to Williamsport and the C&O Canal which follows the Potomac River from Cumberland to near Washington, D.C. 185 miles -- Antietam National Battle Field. Take (blue) State Rt. 65 South to Sharpsburg. No. 5 -- Washington Monument State Park take (blue) Rt. ALT U.S. 40 East to top of S. Mountain, turn left. Follow signs to Park. Nos. 6-7 -- Come back ALT U.S. 40 West from top of S. Mountain to State St. 67. Turn left to Gathland State Park and War Correspondents Memorial. To get to Harpers Ferry National Monument come back to Md. State Rt. 67, turn left to U.S. 340 West, then cross Potomac River and follow signs to Harpers ferry and John Browns Fort. Maryland, West Virginia and Virginia can be seen from here. No.8 -- Greenbrier State Park, take (red) U.S. 40 East to near top of S. Mountain, turn right -- Fine fishing, boating and swimming. Fort Ritchie: Take State Rt. 64 North -- Renfrew Museum. Take State Rt. 64 North to Waynesboro, Pennsylvania, turn right on Pa.16 to east end town. Museum is on your right."
