First opened to the public in 1948 under the auspices of the Preservation Society of Newport, this immense 16th century Italian style mansion was completed for Cornelius Vanderbilt in 1895 from designs of Richard Morris Hunt. Arranged around a huge central hall are seventy rooms on four floors. It faces the Atlantic Ocean from an imposing location on the famous Cliff Walk at Ochre Point. Open to visitors May through October. (Admission Charge)".
