Alternate title: | Old Vedder House on the Bay, Corner Treasury Street, St. Augustine, Fla. Oldest in U. S. |
Summary: | The Old Vedder House on the Bay, St. Augustine, Florida, circa 1907-1914. Caption reads: "Built for Royal Spanish Officials. The double wall at the base was to protect it from the sea. The only house in the city with a double base, proving beyond doubt that it was built years previous to the old Spanish sea wall. Contains first city jail, old fashioned fire places, and bears the unique distinction of having two distinct roofs, one being solid Coquina, to protect it from flaming arrows of the Seminoles. Visited by all tourists." Postcard number: R-31528. |
