Over it have passed funeral corteges of each of our martyred Presidents, and after the Civil War, the entire Union Army marched through it to be reviewed by President Lincoln. It is the route of parade at each Presidential Inauguration when thousands of citizens come from every state to witness or partake in the festivities. It is 150 feet wide and the section here pictured, from the U.S. Treasury to the Capitol, is about one mile long." Postcard number: 61513. |
