Monticello, the home and burial place of Thomas Jefferson, is three miles west of Charlottesville. This Colonial mansion stands upon an eminence, and commands a view of the Blue Ridge for 150 miles. Washington, Adams, Lafayette, and Hamilton were all entertained in the always hospitable Monticello, and there Jefferson died July 4th, 1826.
