Alternate title:Sunrise from Hermit Trail, Grand Canyon, Arizona
Summary:Looking over the Grand Canyon from Hermit Trail during sunrise, circa 1907-1915. Caption reads: "A reddish purple slowly pushes back the darkness from the horizon and climbs toward the zenith and rolls down behind the great walls, deepening and growing deeper as it descends. The eastern havens grow swiftly brighter-you are surprised at the rapidity with which the day approaches, for all the darker tints are quickly subdued. Suddenly the sun bursts over the horizon and floods all the Canyon with light or casts dark and purple shadows, setting forth wall and recess, mountain butte and deep abyss in startling contrast-and a new day is begun!" Message reads: "We shall reach Los Angeles, Cal. Tuesday. Geo. is there; baby is fine. This is a wonderful place, pen cannot describe it." Postmark date: March 8, 1915; Postcard number: 79791; Message included.
