Summary:Statute of John L. Burns, Gettysburg, Pennsylvania, circa 1907-1914. Caption reads: THE HERO OF GETTYSBURG. The figure of John Burns, of Gettysburg, cast in bronze stands upon a pedestal of native rock on the field of the first day's fight. Over seventy years of age, John Burns shouldered his musket and offered his services. He scorned advice to fight in the woods and joined the line of battle in the open. He was wounded in three places. His home is nearby, near the Emergency Monument. Postcard number: 158.
