Summary:26th Pennsylvania Emergency Regiment Monument, Gettysburg, Pennsylvania, circa 1907-1908. Caption reads: The Emergency Men. These were the minute-men of '63, raised to protect their State from invasion. The untried volunteers were no match for the veterans of the Army of Northern Virgina, but before they returned they made for themselves a record of which Pennsylvania is proud. In the background appears the residence of John Burns, the civilian hero of Gettysburg, whose valor won him a place in history. Postmark date: August 3, 1908; Postcard number: 4750; Message included.
