Summary:Antietam time-capsule trophy, Fort Carson, Colorado, circa 1962-1980.Caption reads: "This time capsule was created as a result of a gun crew of Battery A 1st. Btn., 19th Field Artillery 5th Infantry Div. (Mech.) U.S. Army at Fort Carson, Colo. naming their 105 M.M. Howitzer 'Antietam' early in 1962. A casing fired from this gun was used to seal in selected records of the Battle of Antietam (Sept. 17, 1862) and its Centennial Anniversary of Sept. 17, 1962. This capsule initially presented to Battery A is to be used as an annual competitive trophy among the batteries of the Btn. With the passing of a century the Maryland Historical Society will deliver the Capsule Trophy to the incumbent Gov. of Maryland who on Sept. 17, 2062 will break the seal and publish its records."
