Caption reads: "Built in 1756 a protection for early settlers during the French and Indian War, this is the only relic of that period in Washington County. Located on a bluff overlooking the Potomac River near Big Pool. Scene of many battles and one of massacre of settlers by the Indians. Used during the Revolutionary and Civil Wars. A splendid museum, open daily depicting the early scenes which made it famous, is maintained in the State Park which surrounds the Fort." Postcard number: P14362. |
