Summary: | General "Stonewall" Jackson's Statue, Richmond, Virginia, circa 1914-1917. Caption reads: "Gen. 'Stonewall' Jackson's Statue. Capitol Square, Richmond, Va. This masterpiece of the sculptor's art, by Foley, was unveiled Oct. 26, 1875, having been presented to the State of Va. by certain English gentlemen as a tribute of admiration for Jackson's military genius. The general was mortally wounded May 2, 1863 near Chancellorsville, Va., by his own soldiers, who mistook him and his staff for a detachment of the enemy. In the rear of the statue stands Richmond's City Hall, containing its executive offices, Municipal Courts, etc., and on the opposite corner is the handsome new building of the Life Insurance Co. of Va."
