Summary:Libby Prison, Richmond, Virginia, circa 1915-1916. Caption reads: "Beautiful and Historical Richmond, Va. Series. No. 12. Libby Prison, Richmond, Virginia. In this famous building, which formerly stood on the corner of 20th & Cary Sts., thousands of Federal Officers were imprisoned during the war. On one occasion 19 successfully effected their escape by tunnelling under its walls. Was dismantled in 1893, re-erected in Chicago for exhibition purposes during the World's Fair and is now here."
