Caption reads: "For two weeks Grant's Northern forces engages in battle with Lee's Southern forces near the village of Spotsylvania Court House. On May 12, 1864, some of the most savage fighting in American history took place at the Bloody Angle, where men fired at each other point-blank and then bayoneted and clubbed one another to death. Although not a clear victory for either side, after Spotsylvania Grant continued his advances south to Richmond. Background: Spotsylvania Confederate Cemetery.
