Summary:Stonewall Jackson's Headquarters, Winchester, Virginia, circa 1971-1990. Caption reads: "Winchester, Va. In October, 1861, Gen. Thomas J. Jackson, who had won the sobriquet of 'Stonewall' at First Manassas, was given command of the Department of the Shenandoah, Confederate Army, with headquarters at Winchester. During that winter he and his staff occupied the building on North Braddock Street, then on the outskirts of town. Jackson's chief military operation while here was his expedition against Romney in the opening weeks of 1862. In March the Union forces under Banks crossed the Potomac and Jackson then evacuated Winchester." Postcard number: K-3008.
