Title |
Church at Pueblo of Santo Domingo, New Mexico, circa 1915-1930
|
Description |
Church at Pueblo of Santo Domingo, New Mexico, circa 1915-1930. Caption reads: "The soldier and the priest marched side by side in the days of the Spanish Conquest, and simultaneously with the occupation of New Mexico mission churches of the Jesuit and Franciscan orders were built. The exact date of the present church is hard to determine as the pueblo has been moved from one side of the Rio Grande river to the other ; it has existed, however, since the Spanish Conquest. The Santo Domingo Indians profess the Catholic religion, though still adhering to many of their tribal religious ceremonies." Postcard number: 12953.
