Virginia Military Institute Monument, New Market, Virginia, circa 1951-1980. Caption reads: "Charge of the V. M. I. Cadets at New Market, Va. This monument marks the spot where 9 V. M. I. Cadets were killed and 47 were wounded, at the Battle of New Market. 221 Cadets served in the infantry and 30 in the artillery in this historic battle of 1864 which resulted in a complete victory for the Confederates."
