Henry Clay Statue, Capitol Square, Richmond, Virginia, circa 1907-1914
|
Description |
Henry Clay Statue, Capitol Square, Richmond, Virginia, circa 1907-1914. Caption reads: "Henry Clay Statue, (Capitol Square,) Richmond, Va. This marble statue of the author of the 'Missouri Compromise' was executed by Joel T. Hart, a native of Kentucky, and unveiled April 12th, 1860. It is said to be an excellent likeness of Clay, through the uncouth habiliments which clothe the figure (perhaps a too faithful rendering of the style of the period) rather detract from a proper appreciation of the artistic value of effigy." Postcard number: 82, A-5456.
