Ashlawn, the home of United States President James Monroe, near Charlottesville, Virginia, circa 1907-1914. Caption reads: "Monroe Home. 'Ashlawn', the old home of James Monroe, president of the United States from 1817 to 1825, is located five miles southeast of Charlottesville, and in full view of Monticello, the home of Thomas Jefferson. It cost about $3,000 to erect. Nearby is a very tall pine tree, which was planted by Mr. Monroe, and which is easily seen from a distance." Postcard number: 2567.
