Description provided by photographer Roy Simonson reads: "Rice, already headed, in paddies in valley along the southeast coast of Kauai. The little tower in the center is a place for an old man or woman to sit to ward off birds by pulling the little string extending out from the center to the corners and sides of the field. Each string is festooned with rags. Farmers are of Oriental descent." This description contains original creator-supplied description.
