Lumbering locomotive on the rim of Pennsylvania's Grand Canyon, Tioga County, Pennsylvania, circa 1930-1945. Caption reads: "The picture you see on this card was taken in 1893 from the present Rim Lookout on the west side of the canyon about 1/4 mile north of the present entrance to Colton State Park. At that time the mountains, through which the Canyon runs, were interlaced with switchback narrow gauge railroads operated by the lumbering firms taking out the virgin pine in this region. Old No. 3 locomotive, famous in Tioga County lumbering history, is shown at the right of the picture on the rim, ready to haul another trainload of logs from the forest. At the bottom of the Canyon, to the left, can be seen the single track railroad line, even then running the length of the Canyon. Harrison State Park is the first sharp point or defile on the top of the mountain, across the Canyon, to the left side of the picture as you look at this view. Pennsylvania State Laurel Festival at Wellsboro, Pa, in June of every year." Postcard number: 81274.
