Title |
East Cavalry Field, Gettysburg, Pennsylvania, circa 1915-1930
|
Description |
East Cavalry Field, Gettysburg, Pennsylvania, circa 1915-1930. Caption reads: Cavalry fight. General Lee's plan for the engagement of the third day, crushing the Union left centre, separating the Union Line into two confused bodies and defeating them separately, carried a detail of no little importance. Stuart was however, met by Gregg's Division of Union cavalry, about three miles east of the town. The engagement was severe. Charges were rapidly followed by counter charges, with uniform success for the Union troops, until the Confederate troop, after heavy losses retired to the north, abandoning all attempts to reach and harass the Union center. Postcard number: G-43.
