The Northeast Rotunda at the University of Virginia in Charlottesville, Virginia, circa 1907-1914. Caption reads: "Northeast Rotunda - University of Virginia, Charlottesville." Reverse caption reads: "Northeast Rotunda - University of Virginia. The Northeast Rotunda, modelled after the Pantheon of ancient Rome, is the central building, though not the first erected. Begun in 1823, the portico was not finished until after the death of the founder, Thomas Jefferson (1826). It is approached by fourteen steps, giving an imposing beauty to its handsome portico, 50 by 28 1/2 feet, supported by ten columns 28 1/2 feet high." Postcard number: 2388.
