Caption reads: "William Mason (original) 1856, Baltimore and Ohio Transportation Museum, Baltimore, Md. Built by William Mason of Taunton, Mass., who has often been called the 'Father of the American-type engine' because he introduced the revolutionary idea of turning out products of beauty as well as of utility.
