Men next to the saqiyah water wheel being driven by a camel. Materials from the "Photographs, 1864-1953" series from the Brooke Family papers. Description on reverse reads: "'Luxor -- Hard to get a good picture of a sakieh -- a gadget for bringing up water for irrigation. These devices are scattered all through the fields, with camels, cows or water buffalo furnishing the power. Buckets spaced around the smaller wheel bring up the water and dump it into a ditch.' From correspondence collections; folder #41 (item no 2) 1953 Trip by R. B. Farquhar." This photograph was originally part of the "Correspondence, 1815-1954" series from the Brooke Family papers, Box 5, Folder 9, titled "To Mary F. Green and 'Falling Green' -- From Roger Brooke Farquhar, Jr."
