Summary: | Chairman Sewell Avery of the board of directors of Montgomery Ward was carried from the firm's Chicago office in April 1946 by two soldiers. He had defied a War Labor Board directive to reach an agreement with his employees and refused to cooperate with the Government after it had seized the Chicago office. The company continued its defiant attitude. Just recently it was ordered by the NLRB to bargain with its employees.
