Caption reads: "Brompton, more than 200 years old, stands in quiet but impressive dignity and is a veritable treasure trove of history. The scene of notable events in peace and war. It served as Lee's headquarters during the battles of Fredericksburg. The marks of shot and shell are still plainly visible. It was the center of attack in both battles and more than 11,000 men were killed or mortally wounded in front of this old mansion. It was a part of Mary Washington College of the University of Virginia and is the home of the President." Postcard number: 9B-H1022.
