|
Description |
Root Boy Slim performing onstage at the Warner Theatre in Washington, D.C., March 7, 1978. Root Boy Slim on many occasions performed in glasses in the shape of stylized text. This concert was a going-away celebration for WFHS DJ Joshua Brooks. Root Boy Slim and the Sex Change Band with the Rootettes were a blues-rock band known for their acerbic and absurdist songs and stylized performances that garnered a major local fanbase in the Washington, D.C. area from the late 1970s to the early 1980s. This photograph was taken by Don Hamerman, who was then a staff photographer for Unicorn Times, a monthly performing arts periodical in Washington, D.C.
