Title |
Patti Smith, July 1978
|
Description |
Musician, poet, and author Patti Smith poses in a hotel room in July 1978. The photograph was taken as part of a session for Unicorn Times, an alternative performing arts periodical in Washington, D.C. In the September 1978 issue of Unicorn Times, an article on Smith includes a different photograph from this session. In the article, Smith explains the Purple Heart award she wears in this photograph: "The kids in Tampa gave me this. I had an accident there about a year and a half ago, fell and broke my neck and was out of action. So, I went back to the same place and they gave me a Purple Heart. See, it says 'for military merit.'"
