|
Description |
Joshua Brooks, pioneering WFHS DJ, backstage at his benefit concert featuring Root Boy Slim at the Warner Theatre in Washington, D.C., March 7, 1978. Brooks was one of the three DJs behind Spiritus Cheese, a freeform program airing on WFHS beginning in 1969 which brought blues and alternative rock to the D.C. radio listenership. Brooks, a longtime DJ, was also an ardent supporter and on-air promoter of local acts such as Root Boy Slim, who performed at this concert, billed as a going-away show for Brooks. This photograph was taken by Don Hamerman, who was then a staff photographer for Unicorn Times, a monthly performing arts periodical in Washington, D.C.
