Title |
Meatmen, Grand Mal, Marginal Man, Second Wind concert flier, Wilson Center, Washington, D.C. - January 28, 1984
|
Description |
Advertising flier promoting a concert by The Meatmen, a hardcore band whose members had recently moved from Michigan to Washington, D.C. The concert occurred on January 28, 1984 at the Wilson Center in Washington, D.C. Other bands on the bill included the D.C. punk and hardcore bands Grand Mal, Marginal Man, and Second Wind. Starting in the early 1980s, the Wilson Center was one of the primary venues for concerts in the D.C. punk scene and the concert the flier promoted became the best-attended one to date with a reported attendance of more than 600 people. According to "Dance of Days: Two Decades of Punk in the Nation's Capital" by Mark Andersen and Mark Jenkins, Meatmen singer Tesco Vee "rode onstage on a moped wearing tight gold lamé pants to begin a show quite unlike the usual harDCore concert." The concert was promoted by musician Malcolm Riviera and the poster was designed by Bob Raiter. The first version of the flier (with red spot color) seen here is from the Paul Bushmiller collection on punk, 1981-1992. The second version of the flier seen here is from the Sharon Cheslow Punk Flyers collection, 1979-1991.
