Crowd viewing bird drawing out written fortunes, or "omikujihiki," outside entrance to the Tsurugaoka Hachimangū shrine. Description provided by photographer Roy Simonson reads: "The crowd of people, including "Son" Coleman (foreground) and a bearded, turbaned soldier from Bombay, India, around an old Japanese woman telling the fortunes with birds at the entrance to the grounds of the Hachiman Shrine, Kamakura. The small, trained birds go into an inner cage and bring out a slip of paper carrying ideographs which the old woman reads to the customer."
