The Slinkees concert flier, Brian's Garage, Washington, DC - August 24, 1979
|
Description |
Advertising flier promoting a concert by the The Slinkees and The Zones, two punk bands from Washington, D.C. The concert occurred on August 24, 1979 in the garage of the bands' friend Brian in Washington, D.C. and was the Slinkees only live performance before breaking up. The Slinkees featured bassist Ian MacKaye, guitarist Geordie Grindle, and drummer Jeff Nelson, all of whom went on to play in the band The Teen Idles, one of the first hardcore punk bands from D.C. Nelson and MacKaye then founded the band Minor Threat, as well as the flagship D.C. punk record label, Dischord Records. Nelson, who designed this flier, went on to play drums in the bands Three and High-Back Chairs, among other projects. MacKaye went on to play in the bands Embrace, Fugazi, and the Evens, among others. The Slinkees' vocalist Mark Sullivan later sang for the band Kingface and wrote the novel "Jonah Sees Ghosts."
