A crowd of people on the National Mall in Washington, D.C. participating as background actors in the filming of the 1979 American musical motion picture, "Hair." The photograph was taken by Don Hamerman who photographed the set and filming of "Hair" for the portion of production that took place in Washington, D.C. Hamerman was then a staff photographer for "Unicorn Times," a monthly performing arts periodical in Washington, D.C. The day of filming covered three musical numbers as well as a crowd scene used in the final scenes of the film. Participants were sourced through advertising in local papers, and a free concert was also staged on the National Mall featuring Bonnie Raitt, Catfish Hodge, the Rosslyn Mountain Boys, Melba Moore, Ronnie Dyson, and the Twyla Tharp dancers.
